Definitions

Below are some commonly used terms that apply to our products. To ensure proper translation, we have defined them:

MPJ

The length of the shell, mid-layer or top cover, ending proximal to the metatarsal heads (met heads).

Sulcus

The length of the shell, mid-layer or top cover, ending just distal to the toes.

Full

The length of the shell, mid-layer or top cover, extending past the end of the toes.

Medial Flange

A higher than normal height of the medial side of the shell.

Lateral Flange

A higher than normal flange extending from the heel cup to the distal end on the lateral side of the orthotic.

Lateral Clip

A higher than normal lateral flange extending from the heel cup distal and ending before the base of the 5th metatarsal.

P-Wing

A unique dual density, exaggerated longitudinal arch pad on the medial side of the foot for the PTTD.

Lotz Bar

An additional layer of Nickelplast on an accommodative device used to off-load all five met heads of the foot. Ideal for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Leg Length Discrepency (LLD) Heel Lifts

Permanent: Lifts can be permanently applied to the bottom of the heel of a functional or accommodative orthotic.

Removable: Separate cork heel lifts are also available. Note: A lift is typically only applied under the heel on a functional device, but is not carried distal to the met heads on an accommodative device.

Rear Foot Extrinsic Post

An additional layer of crepe or cork is applied directly to the heel of the shell and is then capped off.

Forefoot Post Extrinsic on Shell

A thin, crepe post applied straight across to the distal ¾’’ of the MPJ-length shell.

Forefoot Post Extrinsic to Sulcus

An additional layer of crepe or cork is posted from the distal end of an MPJ-length shell to the Sulcus.

Morton’s Extensions

Soft: A crepe extension specifically under the 1st met head that effectively raises the ground up to the foot, off-loading the 1st ray.

Rigid: A semi-rigid plastic extension of a functional shell running distal under the 1st met head and hallux.

Reverse: Accommodative: A 1st ray cut-out of a sulcus or full length shell.

Functional: A 1st ray cut-out of the shell and a 1st met head cut-out of the sulcus length forefoot post.
