The under side of the plastic is layered with an EVA foam similar to the “mid-sole” of running shoes. ·The combination of flexible plastic with a foam underside allows the foot to flex normally as a natural shock absorber, but will not flex excessively and pronate through the device. This is an excellent combination that can correct bio-mechanical deficiencies. ·These orthotics may also be used as preventative medicine. NOTE ·All Orthotics produced at Marathon Orthotics are custom in the true sense of the word. The materials for the arch support portion of the orthotics are thermal-moldable and are vacuum formed over an exact replica of your patient’s feet. For this reason, we need an accurate negative cast supplied by your clinic. ·If needed, please contact Marathon Orthotics for proper casting instructions. See the 'Contact Us' page for more information. ·Shallow foam boxes will not be accepted. The impression foam needs to be approximately 2” thick to provide an accurate representation of the patient's arch. ·Foam casting boxes can be purchased through Marathon Orthotics. Fitting Orthotics ·If the shoe has a removable insole, this should be taken out and replaced with the new custom orthotics. For this reason a full length top cover is usually best. ·Dress shoes rarely have removable liners, so a Sulcus length top cover is usually best as it will pin the orthotic down in the shoe to prevent forward sliding, yet it will not take up toe room.
